I agree 100% that Calgary is becoming, if it is not already, a Police State. There are WAY too many cops, with WAY too many gadgets, weapons, and power. The hyper-sensitive SWAT team is called out to attack people in their homes for no good reason... Helicopters flying around at all hours of the day and night disturbing peaceful citizens. Tickets are sent out as fast as the millions of dollars worth of equipment can photograph and write them. Cameras at every intersection making us feel like we are always doing something wrong... ridiculous speed limits put in place to increase tax revenues (i.e. speeding tickets).

Police are NOT supposed to be tax collectors, nor are they supposed to be omnipresent! Police are there to STOP CRIME without continuously harassing the citizenry.

GET RID OF 50% OF THE POLICE FORCE, ELIMINATE ALL THE STUPID CAMERAS AND GADGETS, AND PUT COPS ON THE STREET TO... GET THIS.... STOP CRIME!!!!

I am disgusted by how this city uses its police force and continuously increases their power over its innocent civilians.

STOP CALGARY'S POLICE STATE NOW!!!!!!!!!!

How the hell am I supposed to find why should vote for you? Or even phone someone about you? I am in the 8th grade trying to finish my Humanities projects on who I should vote for. I pray for Calgary's sake we do not elect you as mayor. I hate you.

We need an airport tunnel road. I live in the NE, and believe it is counter-productive that so many more cars will have to travel over to Deerfoot Trail to reach the airport, because of Barlow Trail being closed. The lack of an airport tunnel road will not only increase our pollution and carbon footprint but also increase traffic flow on an already overly taxed Deerfoot Trail. Many business people from downtown Calgary travel regularly to the airport and back for business trips, as well as business travelers coming in for business meetings to downtown Calgary. Please find some way to make the airport tunnel road happen. The fact that a pedestrian foot bridge over the Bow River takes priority over an airport tunnel road makes no sense at all.

I disagree. I lived in Denver, Colorado and Denver had twice as many people and half the amount of cops, which worked fine. Calgary has double the cops and far less crime and far less the population. It seems as though Calgary is turning into a Police state! Do you not agree? Everywhere in this city I see cops. There isn't enough for these cops to do as it is ...that is why they are harassing the local population for petty crimes. Further more their professionalism is decreasing. I have met to many cops here and Calgary that are abusing their power…Joe, do you support this?

I just read an article on your site promoting democracy … with that said I wanted to remind you of “Freedom of Speech” and therefore I wish this to be published on your blog with and explanation.

I saw a bumper sticker once that said 'Re-elect nobody'.
Seems like good words to vote by especially in light of a fiscally irresponsible council that decided to build a 25 million dollar foot bridge. This asinine decision was further compounded by sending much of the work overseas such that we get a bridge that was only assembled in Canada at a time when the economy is in a slump.
