Peter Drucker says leadership is about results. I completely agree.
Results drive prosperity for our city, which in turn drives a higher quality of life for all Calgarians. By working in co-operation with my Council and Administration colleagues, collaborating with provincial and federal government and other key stakeholders, and by taking a keen interest in Calgary as our home, I am extremely proud of what I have accomplished in just three short years serving our great city as Alderman, Ward 6.
- $1 billion of new infrastructure in Ward 6 including the West LRT
- $61 M for the trench at 45 St and 17 Ave SW for public safety
- $8 M for the Westside Recreation Centre
- $10 M for the Signal Hill library (plus another library on the way)
- 2 new traffic interchanges: Glenmore Trail & 37 Street SW, and Sarcee Trail and 17th Avenue SW
- A new fire station on 69 Street SW
- Elevated the fire department to ensure them a voice in building new neighborhoods
- Championed artificial turf fields throughout the city
- Formed Ward Six Community Association Presidents Committee
- Preservation of the City’s brand of “Calgary, Heart of the New West”
- Preservation of Calgary’s Sister City Relationships generating economic and tourism benefit to Calgary
- Electronic communication on traffic and construction issues
- Helped secure the Red Bull X Fighters bringing an estimated $12M economic benefit to Calgary
- Free park and ride, evenings and weekends for all Calgarians
- Perfect Council Meeting attendance
- Delivered on common sense by voting against the $25M pedestrian bridge, against the $11M purchase of the Cecil Hotel and against the 2008 three-year budget and tax hike
- Supported the need for an airport tunnel
Business Background a Strong Foundation
The City of Calgary employs over 14,000 staff to serve more than 1 million customers – the single largest organization in Calgary. Running an organization this size demands a strong business education and experience where results are essential, co-operation between elected officials and administration critical, and efficiencies and effectiveness demanded.
Calgary has afforded me many significant opportunities – now I want to work hard on behalf of all Calgarians as your Mayor. My education, business and municipal government experience includes:
- Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary
- Alderman, Ward 6, City of Calgary
- President and CEO of small to medium sized enterprises
- Vice President in the not-for-profit sector with Tourism Calgary.
- Senior management positions in blue-chip organizations such as TELUS
- Successful entrepreneur
