We had a most successful Afro-Carribbean Mayoral forum on Sunday, and more than ever, I want everyone to vote for Joe Connelly.
 
We had invited all the candidates to the event, and only 5 showed up! Can you simply imagine that? That means that the African-Carribbean community should really be worried because majority of these candidates do not care about us, period!

Joe Connelly: I will vote for Joe for many reasons: First, he respects our community. Joe went to an Afro-Carribbean event and invested time and money to purchase an Afro-Carribbean outfit. Now, that’s identification with the people. Joe invited his audience to apply their intelligence to the 25 priorities of City Hall. That’s focus. Joe does not make empty promises but repeatedly invited his audience on a journey towards finding PRACTICAL solutions to the problems at hand. He spoke of training and quick settlement of new immigrants with practical city programs; he spoke of infrastructure, parking, traffic jams, taking care of our children. He appealed for partnership with City Hall, an open door policy that allows voters to be HEARD. That is an openness and transparency that no one else in this whole race has exhibited…
 
Barbara Higgins played along with us until we had done all the advertisements, flyers, etc. Then she dropped the bomb on us and cancelled last minute. So much for respect. Hmm! She does not care about us one bit, and we all know she panders to the ‘other side’ and no one is being fooled. Why would anyone vote for her simply because she’s a woman? People must put aside all these emotions and vote only for people who will take care of real issues and things that really matter…
 
Ric McIver came in and played with our intelligence, or so he thought he did. The event was scheduled to start at 6:30pm, with everyone to be seated by 6:15pm. Ric arrived about 10 minutes to 6pm, and demanded that we start immediately because HE had to leave at 6:15pm! Wow! Of course we couldn’t do that. His reason? He had thanksgiving dinner! Hello?? WE ALL Had Thanksgiving dinner, but Joe and the others made it there and stayed with us because they have us on their radar! So maybe he thought he was cute and playing with our intelligence, but no one was fooled. So pathetic!
 
Naheed Nenshi: needs time to practice politics. Nothing more to say there.

 I truly hope that Joe wins the mayoral race. He is by far the best candidate. I voted for him as my Alderman and it was the best political choice I’ve ever made. His greatest strength? Communication. I’ve never felt more involved or more heard. I’ve never known so much about my own community, nor have I ever felt like such a part of it.  The biggest thing going for Joe is he actually represents us … he doesn’t force his own ideals or agendas. Correct me if I’m wrong, but … isn’t that the whole idea behind democracy??

Just a quick note to say it was great to see you campaigning last night at the Pengrowth Saddledome. My husband, Ken and I thought it was a great location, and were really taken off guard. There was lots of positive chatter about you standing out there on a chilly night to offer a friendly handshake.
